3. Summer Bridge

UCI Student Success Initiatives (SSI) also offers a limited number of Summer Bridge Scholarships to eligible students for a special version of the Freshman Edge program. Summer Bridge is a 6 week academic and residential pathway offered under the umbrella of the Freshman Edge Program. The curriculum for the Summer Bridge pathway is designed to help new SSI students make the best possible academic and social transition to UCI. Students earn UCI credit and get a head start working towards their degree while meeting other new students, staff and faculty.

Students who meet one or more of the following criteria are eligible to apply:

Summer Bridge Scholarship applicants must submit payment for the non-refundable mandatory campus fee on their Summer Bridge enrollment form upon acceptance of the scholarship to hold their space in the program and courses. Remaining fees and expenses will be funded by the Summer Bridge Scholarship, based on student financial need. Upon completion of Summer Bridge, the mandatory campus fee will be reimbursed to students as a final portion of the scholarship.

Approximately 87 students will be offered a Summer Bridge Scholarship. Recipients enroll in a specified set of courses and are required to live in program housing. Summer Bridge Scholarship recipients receive advising and sign up for fall classes during their Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP).

How to Apply

Submit your completed Summer Bridge Application online through Student Success Initiatives. Deadline to apply is in May. Students who plan on attending Freshman Edge even if a Summer Bridge Scholarship is not awarded, should also enroll in Freshman Edge to save their space in the program and receive the best chances at a space in their desired course. Summer Bridge Scholarship applicants will be notified of their acceptance status beginning mid-May.
