General Chemistry

CHEM 1A (4.0 units)Session I

Atomic structure; general properties of the elements; covalent, ionic, and metallic bonding; intermolecular forces; mass relationships.Corequisite: CHEM 1LA. Prerequisite: MATH 5A or MATH 2A or PHYSICS 7C or CHEM 1P or placement via a score of 600 or higher on the SAT Mathematics Reasoning test, or a score of 27 or higher on the ACT Mathematics test, or a score of 700 or higher on the SAT Chemistry subject exam, or a score of 3 on the AP Chemistry exam, or a score of 4 or higher on the AP Calculus AB Exam, or a score of 3 or higher on the AP Calculus BC Exam. CHEM 1P with a grade of C- or better. Prerequisite or corequisite: PHYSICS 7C. Prerequisite or corequisite: MATH 2A. Prerequisite or corequisite: MATH 5A. Overlaps with CHEM H2A, ENGR 1A.
