Italian Cinema 1945-2013

ITALIAN 50 (4.0 units)Session II

This course explores 20th and 21st century Italian cinema within a socio-political context, taking account of major events and developments like the Second World War, Fascism, Italian Resistance, Mafia and political scandals. Students will explore developments in filmic medium, style and genre, touching on major highpoints for the cinema industry: neorealism (Rossellini; De Sica); international auteur cinema of the 60s and 70s (Antonioni, Fellini, Pasolini); contemporary filmmakers (Moretti, Garrone, Sorrentino). Fulfills GE IV and VIII Will be taught in English Remote Course. Please note if a schedule is listed, you may be required to actively participate during the course meeting time.
