Build a foundation for success before fall quarter begins!

Session II: August 1 - September 9, 2020

Transfer Mentors

As a Transfer Edge participant, you will meet current UCI students who are trained to become your Transfer Edge mentors and welcome you to UCI. The Transfer Edge mentors will help you transition to the UCI campus and college life by creating a meaningful and supportive program environment. A formal Leadership Development Program is offered to Transfer Edge Alumni and transfer students throughout the UCI community beginning in winter quarter as a hands-on leadership experience resulting in participants becoming the official Transfer Edge Mentors. By becoming a Transfer Edge mentor, students give feedback on the past year’s program, help develop program events, and work closely with the students during the upcoming Transfer Edge program.

My name is Olivia Hom and I am a 4th year double major in Psychological Science and Criminology, Law, and Society. I grew up in the Bay Area and transferred to UCI in Fall 2019 from Santa Cruz. As such, I’m excited to help incoming transfer students by connecting students to on-campus resources as well as each other. After UCI, I hope to attend law school and continue my passion for helping others through my professional career. Some of my favorite things are iced coffee, chihuahuas, bonfires at the beach, and independent films! I look forward to meeting all the incoming students and I hope to create a welcoming and comfortable space to support students.

Hello everyone! My name is Arianna Villa, and I am a fourth-year double major in Sociology and Psychological Science. I grew up all around San Bernardino County, but I currently live in Victorville, Ca. I transferred to UCI in Fall 2019 and I am also a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon honors society for low-income and First-Generation students. I love going to Disneyland, camping and hiking, and spending quality time with friends and family. Once I graduate, I plan on becoming an Academic Advisor. As a transfer student, it is easy to be directed in the wrong path in our educational careers. As a future Academic Advisor I hope to be an extra resource to help students reach their academic goals. I am so excited to be part of the Edge Program this year! I hope to create many memorable experiences this summer that will help guide us through our college journey. Welcome to UCI!! Zot Zot Zot!!

Hello! My name is Setarah Zandihaghighi and I will be one of the Transfer Edge peer mentors for summer 2020. I am a fourth year biology student, hoping to go to graduate school after finishing my bachelor's degree. Currently, I am doing research in a neurocritical care research lab in the school of medicine. In addition, I am a social chair of Campuswide Honors Student Council (CHSC) and participate in many UCI clubs and activities. I am also a tutor for math and physics in Irvine Valley College. When I am not in the research lab or science library you can probably find me in a local movie theater trying to catch the latest released movies. In addition, I love art and one of my favorite activities is street photography or reading a fiction book. I was born in Iran and moved here four years ago. I transferred in fall 2019 and through my first year at UCI, I’ve faced many challenges but these challenges helped me to become a stronger and better student! I had many positive experiences and I would be happy to serve as a resource for upcoming transfer students and help them grow into the person that they want to be. I’m looking forward to meeting with all of you. Welcome to UCI. Zot Zot Zot!!

Jessica Luna
She, Her, Hers
Psychology & Social Behavior
jaluna3@uci.edu

Hello ya’ll, my name is Jessica Luna, I am a 25 year-old mixed latinx student from Long Beach, California. This upcoming year I will be a fifth year Psychological Science major in addition to a minor in Gender and Sexuality studies. I transferred to UCI from community college in 2018 and have been growing with the school ever since. Fortunately, but unfortunately, I am the very first in my family to attend a university, which makes me a first generation student. Meaning I have overcome many struggles both externally and internally including mental health and imposter syndrome. However, I strive for success to pave the way for my family, overcome placed stigmas and create a path for future generations. As of now, I obtain two Associate Degrees and will be expecting a Bachelor Degree in spring of 2021. I also am the Events Coordinator for the Multicultural Interracial Experience (MIX) Club at UCI. Mental health is an extremely important aspect in my life, which pushed me to pursue an education is psychology. Although my future career plan is still in process, I plan to become a psychologist with a specialization in the adolescent community. When I have free time between academics, I like to create crafts, construct cosplay outfits/costumes and attend music festivals. Both academic involvements and creative activities bring me great joy as I could express my uniqueness in ways that are enjoyable to others as well. I am so excited to meet you all and welcome to the anteater family!
