Steps to Enroll in Freshman Edge
Courses are filled on a first come, first served basis.
Summer Bridge Scholarship recipients will be notified at the beginning of May. Scholarship recipients will be contacted by Student Support Services, who will administer enrollment for Summer Bridge courses.
|Step 1: SIR
||Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by May 1st.
You must be an admitted UCI student planning to attend UCI.
|Step 2: Academics
||Visit the Academics page to choose your desired course and an alternate choice for Freshman Edge.
This step does not apply for Summer Bridge students.
|Step 3: Placement Exams
||If you are planning on taking any math, chemistry, physics, writing or foreign language courses during Freshman Edge, then you should make sure to take the required Placement Exams as soon as possible. By taking your placement exams early, you will know what courses (in the above subject areas) to take during Freshman Edge. For more information about Placement Exams, please visit the UCI Academic Testing Office website. You will also receive follow-up information regarding your placement exams.
Please note that if you receive the Summer Bridge Scholarship, you will be required to enroll in UNI STU 84 and HISTORY/LPS 60.
|Step 4 (optional): Financial Aid
||If you would like to be considered for summer financial aid or a Summer Bridge Scholarship, you must complete both the following steps by their respective deadlines:
After May 31, 2016 loans may be available, based on your personal financial situation. In order to be eligible to apply for summer aid, please also keep in mind that you must enroll in a minimum of six (6) units.
- Submit your 2015-2016 FAFSA by June 30, 2016 though it is recommended that you complete your FAFSA by May 31, 2016 to ensure your record can be successfully submitted.
- Complete the online Summer Financial Aid Estimator by logging into My Aid by June 17, 2016 to be considered for grant funding and/or the Summer Bridge Scholarship.
Please note that the 2015-2016 FAFSA that is required for summer aid is last year's form and is different than the 2016-2017 FAFSA that you may have already completed for Fall financial aid. Visit the UCI Financial Aid and Scholarships website for more information about applying for summer financial aid.
The State of California requires that you be told the following: Federal student loans are available to most students regardless of income and provide a range of repayment options including income-based repayment plans and loan forgiveness benefits, which other education loans are not required to provide.
Courses are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Students who will not be covered during the program by a major medical health insurance should strongly consider enrolling in Voluntary UC SHIP.
More information on UC SHIP is also available.
